Staged Treatment
For some patients, orthodontic treatment is more effective if it is divided into two stages or phases. The first phase is during a child's younger years, around 6-12 years old, when they are developing. The second phase occurs after all adult teeth have erupted, usually during their early teen years.
Phase One
The goal of phase one treatment is to create a strong, healthy foundation. We can use various methods, such as a rapid palatal expander or limited braces, to ensure the patient's jaw develops in a way that will accommodate all the permanent teeth. This can help your child avoid the need avoid the need for full braces or treatment later and to prevent future complications like extractions or jaw surgery, as well as to ensure a better overall outcome.
Phase Two
Phase two treatment involves making sure each tooth is perfect and in its exact position. This typically includes a set of braces for a very brief amount of time possibly some easy Invisalign Express.
Patients who have undergone phase one treatment often do not need any further treatment at all!
